Chapter 1 ::
Thinking Of You
A
boy with long silver hair was
standing on an island surrounded
by the dark sky. He was standing
in front of a girl with long
brown hair and
blue eyes.
“Please…!” called the boy
reaching out to the girl.
“Don’t ever forget me!” she
yelled back as the island began
to separate between them and
float off into the darkness
“Noooooo!” Riku jumped, falling
into darkness and waking himself
up from his nightmare.
He snatched off the black sash
covering his orange eyes to see
the night sky filled with stars
above him.
“Not again.” Riku said, wiping
off the cold sweat that was
covering his face. As he was
catching his breath, a small
figure in a black cloak with big
round
ears walked up to him.
“Riku, are you ok? I heard you
screaming,” he said.
Riku sat up. As he was pulling
off his hood, he looked at the
worried expression on the face
of his sole companion. King
Mickey looked back at him,
waiting for a reply. Riku tucked
the sash into a black cloak that
was identical to the one on the
King. Looking up at the sky once
more, he sighed.
“Yeah, I’m alright. I had
another dream of her…floating
away on the island…” Riku looked
down at his slightly trembling
hands; two large white spiders,
almost glowing in the eerie
moonlight. He rubbed his face,
trying to clear his head. He had
been having that same dream for
the past week. The King sat down
next to him.
What does this mean? Who is she,
and why can’t I remember her
name?
“And why do I always miss her!?”
Riku shouted, causing the King,
to jump a good foot into the
air. Riku turned and gave him an
apologetic look.
“Sorry…I just…don’t understand…”
he tried to get all the words
out, but most of them got caught
in his throat and he had to
stop.
“Aww, don’t worry about it Riku.
We’ll find a path to the Way to
Radiance and find the girl
you’re searching for.” the King
reassured him as he pulled off
his hood. He looked up at Riku’s
face, half hidden by his long
silver hair. The boy had been
through a lot and now, almost at
the end of their journey,
he
kept having the same dream over
and over again. It was too odd.
After a few moments of quiet in
which both were immersed in
their own deep thoughts, Riku
spoke.
“I guess…it’s just…I wish I
could…remember…” it was harder
than he thought to get those few
words out. Riku liked to give
the impression that he had
not a
care in the world. He was strong
and many people often thought he
was invincible. But, he could
not conceal the feeling of
burning desire in his
heart that
troubled him from day to day. He
felt as if he was missing
something, or as if he was
looking for something.
“Remember what?” asked the King.
“Remember…h-her name, her
voice…it’s left me,” sighed Riku,
“It’s been so long.” Pulling his
legs up to his chest, Riku
rested his forehead on his knees
and buried his face in the
smooth black cloth.
“Well,” said the King, trying
his best to cheer the teen up,
“The sooner we find Xehanort’s
Heartless, and Xemnas, his
Nobody, the closer we will be
to
the Way to Radiance. So,” the
little mouse got to his feet and
put a reassuring hand on Riku’s
shoulder causing him to raise
his head. “I think we
should
keep moving. This empty road in
the Realm of Darkness has to
lead to somewhere, right?”
Mickey asked as Riku too got to
his feet. A small
smile
flickered across his face as he
looked down at the King.
“Yeah, let’s go!” he said,
punching the air with his fist.
Mickey clapped and began to walk
down the long road they had been
on for days. Before he
followed
the mouse, Riku looked up one
last time at the stars.
“Xehanort,” he whispered,
“Wherever you are…you better be
ready for me.” And he started
down the path after the King.
Meanwhile on Destiny Islands…
A girl was sitting on the island
shore, staring out into the blue
morning sky, whispering to
herself.
“Where are you...I miss you so
much. If only I could remember
your name.” she sighed. Lying
back on the sand, she stretched
her legs out so that
her feet
were hit with the water every
time there was a wave. She
closed her eyes letting the soft
ocean breeze caress her face,
blowing through
her long brown
hair. It was a feeling that was
all too familiar to her after
living near the ocean for years.
It always made her tired and
caused her
thoughts to wander to
her past.
Meguma could never remember much
of her past. The place where she
was born, her parents, or even
where she lived before she came
to the
island were nowhere to be
found within her memories. A
smile played across her face at
the things she did remember.
Like racing along the shore
with
her friends, and exploring all
the small island had to offer.
If only I could remember his
name, she thought wistfully. The
boy with the silver hair and
beautiful blue eyes…she knew him
once, but it had been
so long
since they had been together, he
was starting to fade from her
memory. She sat up and looked
out at the ocean. She felt that
familiar
feeling deep within her
chest again, the one that came
whenever Meguma thought about
the days when she lived happily
on the island, and knew
exactly
who that boy was. It was a
feeling of longing, as if her
heart called out to him, begging
him to come back. What is your
name…?
“Hey! Meguma! There you are I’ve
been looking all over for you!”
The quiet of the morning was
broken by the shouts of a boy
farther back on the
island. Meguma turned and looked for the
speaker. She instantly spotted
him running towards her, waving
his arms like a bird. Meguma
giggled
as her friend Sora
reached her, panting, with his
hands on his knees.
“Hi Sora!” she answered, “What’s
up?” Sora, however, just keeled
over onto the sand, breathing
deeply. He had spiky brown hair,
and eyes as blue
as the sky. Sora and Meguma were the same
age, 16, so he was always
understanding when she needed
someone to talk to.
In the silence, Meguma’s
thoughts wandered back to the
boy with silver hair again.
Instantly, her face fell and she
turned away so Sora would not
see her like this.
“What’s wrong?” he asked. How
does he do that?
“Nothing’s wrong.” How can he
always tell?
“Yes there is. There always is
when you get really quiet.” Sora
sat up and looked at his friend.
She was very beautiful and very
good at hiding her
emotions. Sora was one of the few who
could really read her. He placed
a hand on her shoulder and gave
her a very intent look.
“I was just thinking of that boy
that used to play with us…his
voice…its gone.” She stated and
Sora could hear the note of
sadness in her voice.
“I know. But, sitting here and
putting isn’t going to do
anything.” said Sora noticing a
single tear beginning to slide
down Meguma’s cheek.
“I guess so…it’s…it’s just been
so long though…” she said more
tears spilling out of her eyes
and down her face.
“Aww Meg, don’t cry. I miss him
too. But…hey wait a second…”
Sora said getting to his feet.
“What?” Meguma asked wiping her
wet cheeks dry
“I have an idea. Come on!” he
said pulling Meguma to her feet.
“Follow me!” and Sora led the
way to the secret place under
the tree with Meg
close behind
him.
